"Attention is all you need" has been the clarion cry of the 2024-25 bull market What I like is that it's moved up one meta, from memecoins where pure attention = number to up to info fi or the rails by which we distribute attention (kaito, cookie dao, etc) Although I preferred the futuristic metaverse bull market of 2021 l, this trend is certainly healthier and better than just pure memecoins The difficult to accept part about info fi is that while it's generally good for individual projects to make their propoganda ecosystem more effective, the total sum of everyone having good propoganda departments is net bad for our media ecosystem For example arbitrum has a program to reward $400k to top 25 yappers over 3 months. On the one hand i like that its no longer backroom kol deals But on the other whenever people tweet about arbitrum (or any kaito project) I assume they are just farming (even if they are not) which is sad. It's like info fi works by poisoning the village well At a larger level, the role of marketing is two fold; (i) giving people useful info about what products they want (ii) zero-sum propaganda war And if two competing projects keep optimizing their marketing harder, over time the relative share of (ii) increases Since it isn't going anywhere, how can we improve info fi? Most yappers are upset at how black box the algorithms are by which they are judged - making us no better than web2 The common defense is that if users know the algorithm, they can game it But there is an alternate mechanisn that eigen tried recently Their internal project vibescore had executives rank various tweets from 1-100 They then used these rankings to select a winning algorithm that was most aligned and revealed to users at the end of the competition, who could then verifiably prove results for themselves This approach is better for 2 reasons; 1. it lets multiple AI agents compete to give the ultimate score rather than enshrining a particular companys ai with special status 2. It follows kerckhoffs principle of "no security by obscurity", as users get to verify the algorithm by which rewards were allocated So far we've seen info fi only percolate within CT. I hope we can ship a version of it to the mainstream world and disrupt the broken marketing apparatus all around us
