US Sanctions North Korean IT Workers for Aiding Cyber Espionage and Cryptocurrency Theft
According to a report by Jinse Finance, the U.S. Department of the Treasury has added Song Kum Hyok, a member of the North Korean hacker organization, to the Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) sanctions list. He is accused of assisting North Korean IT personnel in securing positions at overseas companies, engaging in cyber espionage, and stealing cryptocurrency. Officials stated that these IT personnel obtained jobs in the technology and virtual currency sectors by forging identities, then remitted their earnings and stolen funds back to North Korea. Although no new specific crypto wallet addresses were added this time, the Treasury reiterated that the Lazarus Group has already been sanctioned.
